The Difference between Ensure and Insure

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin

Ensure, dictinary.com says: to secure or guarantee or to make sure or certain:

Insure, dictionary.com says, to guarantee against loss or harm or to secure indemnity to or on, in case of loss, damage, or death.

Therefore, I need to think of insure as insurance against loss. The other, Ensure, is the guarantee. We’ll see if that work’s for me.

NSN the National Storytelling Network chat

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin

Got this email from the Utah division of storytellers.

Hello ,

Last night’s Chair Chat was well attended and many attendees were able to share their thoughts and ideas. Among those ideas was a proposal submitted by Alton Chung, Rachel Hedman, and Vel Weiss, members of the NSN Program Committee. Many requests were made to share the proposal draft and the recording of the Chair Chat along with it.

As a reminder, the NSN Board of Directors have concluded that NSN is at a critical decision point and the question before us as Board on behalf of the membership and the larger storytelling community is what is the future of NSN? There are appear to be three choices:

1.    scale back our programs to a level of cost and income that matches our capacity. This might mean taking a several month hiatus to reconfigure our operations. It might mean only producing an annual conference or a digital magazine like the Story Beast.

2.    Radically rethink what we are and how we function as an organization. What does it mean to be a national advocacy or membership organization? We do not know what that would look like yet.

3.    Acknowledge, as has the Northlands Storytelling Network, that we have had a good run but it is time to go out of business.

Once the Board of Directors has made a decision about the future of NSN, that decision will be announced during the membership meeting at CONNECTED: Part I. We encourage you to attend that meeting to hear the final decision. You can register at https://storynet.org/events/conference/.

Rachel Hedman has provided the following comments to be shared with the link to the Program Committee’s proposal:

It’s official! The 24-page proposal (attached & also linked below) for the National Storytelling Network Board and Membership to review was shared during the 2nd Listening Session (June 14, 2022) guided by the Chair, Loren Niemi. So much thankfulness to Alton Chung and Vel Weiss for spending hours upon hours to figure out step-by-step plans to do what must be done…if we get the support from you and the Board.

An historic and wonderful thing happened. We requested that all NSN Board Meetings be public and announced to membership. While there are certain rules in place for any attending member, Loren Niemi invited anyone interested to go to the June 25, 2022 Board Meeting at Noon Central Time (UTC -5). Registration will be worked out.

Meanwhile…see what you think. If you like it, make sure to let the NSN Board know.

I am happy to answer any questions.

This information came from a woman leadership broadcast hosted by my employer. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • If you are not mentally, well you cannot bring your best self to work and to fulfil responsibilities.
  • The biggest health advocate are often those who have experience mental challenges in the past.
  • Others may not see your struggles.
  • Often people hide their personal struggles. It is better to be more open with challenges.
  • Facing a panic attack is a way for your body telling you that something needs to change. Host said it can humble one and she realize she needs to address her mental health. She establish a network of support. It include her doctor, family and friends.
  • As women, we may feel that we are not strong enough and so resist getting help from external sources. We need to resist that stigma.
  • We need to reach out to others.
  • For some, they body will shut down in response to emotional challenges. She went to the doctor who ask her what her life was like. If one is not coping with stress, it will affect the body. Her brother asked who is driving your car. He observed that she was on task every day and all the time. She realized she was in deep burn out. She learned that she needs moments of hustle but not an entire life of hustle. You need to choose the time to not do the work and to do other things. She recommend everyone see a therapist. She needs to be the one who drives her car. Many struggle with family as well as work. WE are not alone on this.

All is Possible with Him

These are notes from a church talk. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • Luke 18:27
  • To access God’s power, reach out and take it.
  • Prayer is when the will of the father and the child can interact.
  • Mark 5: A woman believed if she touched Christ, she would be healed and she was.
  • The more you access God, the more you can feel him.
  • Christ fed more than 5,000 men and others with five loves of beak and two fish. He can do miracles today.
  • Heavenly Father can put people in our lives that can help us accomplish our goals.
  • We need to continue to have faith and ask for God’s help. God does not want us to fail in life. If we put faith in him, we can make the impossible possible.

Work Life Balance

facebooktwittergoogle_plusredditpinterestlinkedin

My company has different workshop to help employees. These are the notes of one. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

  • Do you have family meals 3 times a week or a family event?
  • One needs to say no if there is too much on your shoulders. Tell them what you can do.
  • Who are your friends? Be selective who gets that label.
  • If you have a trouble, relationship with a family member find a reason to call them. Do you remember why the two of you fought? If the corvid numbers are going up in their – state, call them and ask how they are doing.
  • Get a dig file, darn I’m good. Work wise, personal wise. Make a list of your strengths. Ask a friend if you don’t know.
  • Do not have a second chair in your office to discourage people from squatting.
  • Teach your kids to be active on things policies they are concerned with. Organizations just don’t need a check they need participants.
  • Some people create vision boards to illustrate the goas you have and put it in a prominent sot as a reminder. Goals need to be measurable. Financial and great goals are easier to set may be the hardest to achieve. They are measureable. Recommend you have a financial planner. Good for long-term goals like college and retirement.
  • Watch the nicole and dime spending.
  • Teach your kids early how to manage money.
  • We need to be attentive to our health and vulnerabilities. You need to take care of yourself as well as others. Find an exercise program that works for you. Have a health journal. Walking around the neighborhood and some people meet their neighbors.
  • For multiple goals can be combined. If you want more, exercise and spend time with the kids then all of your ride bikes together.
  • Make sure your eating well.
  • Make sure the things you do to handle stress is healthy. Don’t use unnatural things.
  • For problems sleeping have a bedtime routine.
  • Stress managements > some stress can be good to get things done. Many support groups are now virtual.
  • Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?
  • Try variety in your life. Try a different vegetable, a different path to work. Stay motivated.
  • Try to maintain your humor. Seek the humor of an event.
  • Living mindfully when you eat think what you are eat and think where it came from.
  • Have gratitude.
  • You know what nourishes your soul. You seek friends who will nourish your soul.
  • Write your elegy or your retirement speech. Were you that person that gave back? What type of person would you like to be?
  • To be successful is to have a balance of success stories in the different areas of your life.

Homework:

  • What actions steps do you want to work on your various buckets? What can you do to improve circumstances in one that may be weak?
  • Take deep breaths in moments of stress and just do it throughout the day.
