Went to training for toastmasters and here are some of my notes.
– July club approves annual club budget and adjusts dues.
– Some funds used to attract new members. It gives a new member a sense of accomplishment. Old members will give their ribbons back.
– $2.50 new member packets. Allocate $30 for ribbons and name tags.
– Some clubs are very reactive and others are proactive. Keep track of inventory.
– ask for club fees. When ordering things. Treasurer orders supplies.
– The debit card from the bank is better to go. Not everyone needs a card. A fake card can be used on-line.
– Cash a check later: we charged more. And don’t get magazines soon.
– Don’t take credit card info on a piece of paper.
– Will have office pay club and then we will forward by debit card to pay for the membership fees. Some use pay pal.
– Get online to create an account. Some will have a long term member also signed on the club. They are used as your backdoor.
– As treasurer, you have the power to have a subcommittee to carry the same roles and responsibility as you. They can be trained to be future trainers.
– Use of Meetup is a new club expense.
– You have are accountable of funds. Keep good records. If have a meal that is over budget
– Ask for donations.
– The busiest time is membership drives.
– If have a private space may have to pay for a rental place.
– If use library> need to reserve a room in advance.
– Some clubs will approach a business and say be good for your staff. And then may continue meeting.
– Make sure have 3 officers in club president, VP and secretary signed up and updated on the website. 1. Can’t log in inactivated. 2. Lose all past members.
– A bunch of ribbons shows new members that the club is on top of it.
– Leave good notes, and sometimes your replacement treasurer will not read the notes.
– Limit the use of the debit account.
– Can ask to have checks to be printed. Keep track. To use the next numbers to keep checks in sequence.
– Take the laptop to the meeting to process payments.
