I often sign up for writing summits and this presentation was given by John Tighe. Any misinformation is the fault of the note-taker.

Q: Why should authors collect emails?

  • A bio lead (nonfiction) is someone who has obtained your book.
  • We need to create our own email list with a lead magnet. Get something free.
  • It gives you direct communication if social media bans you.
  • It is a powerful marketing cook for other services beyond your book
  • Building a community.
  • Increasing sales by making your list aware of other services.
  • You can get feedback from your fans. They can ask questions or point to areas of confusion..
  • Help you launch your book and give the first review by them having the inside track.

Q: good examples of lead products.

  • It is only limited by our imagination.
  • Maybe a one-page cheat sheet
  • A chapter from your book
  • A short story
  • A free course
  • Quizzes and surveys do well for nonfiction.
  • A checklist or resource lists things to do for certain things that can benefit your recipient.
  • A two-page pdf that is a link to all your resources of all your resources on your website.

Q: should authors experiment with lead magnets

  • Think about what might be the most interesting to them and think of using that for a magnet.
  • Maybe bundle several magnets together.
  • A list of resources collected through the years.
  • The host did a tweet, for a free book with a 24-hour timer. Boosted by 70%

Q: What is an autoresponder and how it work?

  • Paid software bool lets you collect your readers and let you send emails to them.
  • Lt you set up a landing page to offer a lead magnet.
  • Only get more info/ fill out fields if relevant to what you offer.
  • Can get an email link that points you to a video hosted on another site.
  • It allows you to have emails queued up on certain dates. Email in sequence.
  • Send out weekly emails to your list.
  • Have a thank you page.
  • There are tutorials on YouTube.com. Go to fiva.com maybe find.com to hire someone to set it up
  • A first book leads to a second book.

Q: other ideas

  • Something is better than perfect.
  • Have multiple actions at the front of the book and at the end of the book.
  • If you have chapters on different chapters in the nonfiction book. Specialize a lead on that chapter topic like a checklist. Maybe be the same resource and have different sections for the book.
  • A popup may be useful.

Q: extra advice?

  • Go out and take action.
