Filling Congressman Stewart’s Vacancy

Last week, Rep. Chris Stewart informed me that he would be resigning from his position in Utah’s Second Congressional District effective September 15, 2023. We thank Rep. Stewart for his dedication to the people of Utah and are grateful for the way he performed in his labors for this great state. The state legislature and our elections office have worked together to ensure that Utah does not go without full representation in Washington D.C. for an extended period of time. Last week, I issued two proclamations found here and here to expedite the process in accordance with Utah laws and the changes that the Utah Legislature will make today in a special session.

The filing period to be a candidate for Utah’s Second Congressional District ends today at 5 p.m. (6/14). I want to encourage all citizens of our state to be civically active during this important process. Please engage and participate in your respective party conventions and primaries as our state election laws permit.

Positive Effects of Our State’s Snowpack

Our state has been fortunate with the level of snow we received this past winter. We have seen remarkable progress to date in the filling of our state’s reservoirs and aquifers. A notable illustration of this impact can be witnessed in the rise of Lake Powell, including a remarkable 46-foot increase in storage, or an average of nearly one foot per day this spring. As Utahns, we must continue to be diligent stewards of our current and future water assets.

Best,
