I found these notes from one of the presentations/panels I attended at Life the Universe and Everything symposium. I thought it contained useful information. Any misinformation is the fault of the note taker.

• Write like the dickens.
• Sell subscriptions to your chapters. When book is done each subscriber gets a copy of the entire book.
• Web sites exist for beta readers. You can post a file as a PDF file on the website
• Use Crowdfunding to get funding for your project. Check out kickstarter.com. To be used as a subscription you put up your book. Show a video of yourself. Post subscription rewards. Set target cost. It is administered by Amazon. If you go over your goal you can add embellishments to your project.
• Check out scribesforage.com
• net is a group funded movie.
• What candy can I provide to customers to take a part of projects
• Look up book: long tail
• Urban fantasy: have a secondary plot to have as part of the story in fantasy another part in normal life..
• Challenge the reader as if the arena is going on before them.
