Last year I attend LTUE and took some great notes on a number of great panels. Here are my notes on marketing yourself. Enjoy.
– Get the first paragraph to sing.
– Synopsis just the facts of the main plot.
– First reference to characters names in’s
– Submission market is available at writer’s market process needs to be a book.
– Pitcher book similar to sue to famous books and movies, i.e. Dracula meets Tinkerbell
– Have 10 pages of your submission inside at the bottom of the email to an agent.
– Five queries a week.
– On small press contacts can be evil.
– LegalZoom.com. Check it out.
– Identify each book as single with series potential.
– Discoverability: most people still find books in bookstores.
– Word-of-mouth is key.
– Find a publisher who has good to secretion system. You can do this by look at the website see how a customer can order their books.
– Help a reporter out: you can contact reporters were looking for articles about different topics and you can become the source. http://www.helpareporter.com/
– You may be successful in a field. You don’t expect.
– What books you’re known for, or those that you write the most.
– Elevator pitch. You have nine seconds to sell your book to someone in an elevator than 30 seconds to follow up. In a pitch picked to things that they can relate to, i.e. zombies meet Greek wedding. Tell me what the book is about by given the stakes, the character is facing.
– Never pay someone to read your book.
– He knows retaining his submission restrictions just don’t submit to different agents at the same agency at the same time.
– Contracts: read the contract and look upward, you don’t understand. Know the point that you will and walk away
